Dr. Mackenzie Cremeans is currently the in-house hydrogeologist at Shook, Hardy, and Bacon in Kansas City, Missouri. Primarily, Dr. Cremeans works on matters involving environmental litigation and toxic torts, using her specialization in contaminant transport, especially related to groundwater-surface water exchange. Prior to this, she was an environmental consultant for Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. (Boca Raton, Florida). She earned B.A.s in English Literature and Environmental Geosciences from DePauw University in 2014 and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Kansas in 2018. Aside from work life, Mackenzie also serves as the International Past-President for the Association For Women Geoscientists (Westminster, CO). In her copious free time, she enjoys reading with a glass of wine, discussing absurd topics, and rocks (of course).

#February11

Hello LadyGeos! At the end of last month, @geoarchandlush mentioned that she and I were working on a big project together. The news is twofold: February 11th is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This year, to honor the day, the Royal Academy of Science International Trust and the United Nations are … Continue reading #February11 →

#NeverTrustTheCarrot

As @geoarchandlush noted in Aaaaand We're Back!, I recently relocated back to the Kansas City area. Like all cross country moves, there's a story (or, in this case, several stories). About a year ago, I started planning to leave my job as an environmental consultant. I had discussed career paths with my boss, shown him … Continue reading #NeverTrustTheCarrot →

#stupidbullshit

Hello all, and happy Friday! Yesterday, I *crushed it* at work and came home feeling energized, ready to have an amazing evening. I decided I’d start by lacing up my shoes to take the dog on a run. Koa, in his natural element. As I set out, my upstairs neighbor came out to yell at … Continue reading #stupidbullshit →

#bekind

Welcome back and happy 2019! On New Year's Eve, I celebrated in true "old lady" fashion: hanging out at home, baking, cleaning, watching movies, and cuddling the dog. So, I think I can officially say I'm an old lady dog mom, and I'm not mad about it (I mean, look at this face!). In another … Continue reading #bekind →

#adultingwithboundaries

I'm Mackenzie and, as you may have guessed, I'm a geoscientist. Back in the day (aka, the 90s), I was that child who picked up rocks everywhere and, if I'm honest, I still am that child (just, you know, a 26-year-old rock monster). My desk has rock paperweights from Death Valley, my end tables are … Continue reading #adultingwithboundaries →
